Christmas Spirit Days -- December 16th-19th
Students and staff are invited to celebrate Christmas with some fun spirit days this week:
Monday, December 16: "Christmas Hair, Don't Care" --Wear a hat
Tuesday, December 17: "Candy Cane Christmas" --Wear red and white
Wednesday, December 18: "Slip into Christmas" --Wear your slippers
Thursday, December 19: "'Twas the Night Before Christmas Break" --Wear your PJs
4th and 5th grade had some fun creating Christmas ornaments with playdoh this afternoon. We will see how they turn out in a few days. The memories made will always be my favorite.
4th and 5th grade played in the "snow" today! They made melted snowmen out of puffy snow paint. They also drew various pictures in snow on their desks. We sure are hoping for some real snow during break. ❄️
All students were invited to wear PJs to school today to celebrate a very successful Pennies for Playground challenge. Throughout the week, students and staff collected $2,000! THANK YOU to everyone who contributed!

4th and 5th grade worked for the last few days designing and constructing paper gingerbread houses. This is one of their favorite projects to do during the holidays.
The 3rd & 6th grade classes won the Pennies for Playground Challenge on Tuesday. They brought in $154.78!! They got to wear their PJs to school today. In two days, we collected $441.78! Keep sending in the pennies (or change/bills)!!
Our first day of Pennies for Playground was a success! As a whole school, we raised $140.80 today!! The 7th & 8th grade class won with a total of $84.87. They get to wear their PJs to school tomorrow!!
We will be collecting change (and bills) all week. The winning class each day gets to wear PJs the next day!
The 4th and 5th graders invited the 3rd graders to their Thanksgiving table this afternoon. I made all the kids pumpkin pie with a spin. They all enjoyed their little treats and ended the afternoon watching Charlie Browns Thanksgiving.
4th and 5th grade sends a huge big THANK YOU to all our Veterans. They collaborated in making a large poster to show their appreciation.
Veterans, on this day, and every day, we honor you. Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your courage. You are true heroes, and we are proud to stand in your company.
Shawnee students did a fantastic job creating poppies to display in remembrance of Veterans' Day. One banner is hung on the bulletin board outside the 3rd grade classroom and the other two banners are hanging in the cafeteria.
4th and 5th grade turned themselves into caricatures. This was a fun little activity for them. They did great!!
The 4th and 5th graders took the role of "teacher" today and created a series of math problems for the 3rd grade students to solve. They were tasked with drawing a Halloween themed picture in the middle and creating 5 addition/5 subtraction problems. They then had to check their work by making an answer key. Once the 3rd graders have completed their assignment, the "teachers" will grade their work.
Red Ribbon Week begins on Thursday! Each day, students can participate in a spirit day to focus on a Drug Free theme. See the image below for each day's theme.
The 4th and 5th graders participated in their annual holiday coloring contest. Give them some love by voting for your favorite(s). Just type the number in the comments.
The 4th and 5th graders have put together a little baseball team at recess. They have become creative with how to set up a game with just the use of a ball and gloves. It's been great watching them play and be so excited to get out on the field.
4th and 5th grade celebrated Johnny Appleseeds birthday a day early by completing a reading escape room. They had to complete various tasks in order to earn a Granny Smith apple slice with caramel. 🍎🍏
Yesterday the Sixth Grade Science class started the Ecosystem Unit with a lessons on plant survival. This lab investigates how plants grow in different landscapes. We planted radish seeds in regular potting soil, sand, gravel and cotton balls. We will update in two weeks with the progress of our plants. Which do you think will grow the best?

The 6th graders demonstrated their knowledge of analogous and complimentary colors by creating chalk pastel sunflowers. It was a messy and fun day in art class!
Family Reading Night is one week from today on Thursday, September 19th! Tomorrow is the last day to sign your family up for an evening of family game time and Book Fair Shopping. You should have received an email last week from Mrs. Hall with a Google Form to complete. Please respond by tomorrow at 3:00 PM.
