Today finalizes the end of the 2023-2024 school year. This is also a bitter sweet moment as I say "see you later" to one very special class. I have loved watching each one of them grow their minds and develop into such wonderful humans. I wish you all a wonderful summer! ☀️

The 7th & 8th graders traveled to Lexington, MO today to complete their study of the Civil War. They learned how to make rope, shoot a cannon, what soldier life was like, and they toured the Battle of Lexington Battlefield and the Anderson House that was used as a field hospital. Finally, we visited the Lafayette County Courthouse where students sat in the courtroom where one student's great-great-great grandfather presided as a judge in the 1940s.

Just some of the Shawnee honor roll students at the breakfast celebration.

7/8 grade held their annual arcade day for grades K-2. In STEM class, they built cardboard arcade games. Gr. K-2 had a great time testing the games!

Shawnee Student Council members enjoyed a Service Project field trip today. Using $500 they had earned from fundraisers, they purchased hygiene and food items from Walmart. Those items were then delivered to the Clinton Community of Christ Church for the Blessings Boxes. We then spent some time at the park before eating lunch at El Puerto. I'm proud of how hard these students work, especially to help others!

The Shawnee Student Council hosted an afternoon of activities for 4th-8th graders this past Friday. Students who attended enjoyed Mat Ball, Capture the Flag, several yard games, and lots of snacks!

Over the past two days, 3rd and 4th grade repurposed our crayons and markers from this school year. We created crayon initials and used our markers to make water colors.

I tried something new this year and had the 3rd and 4th graders write a class book. Each student chose an animal to research and write about. Compiled together, we created "Animals Around the World." I am very proud of their hard work and dedication to their writing and picture.

We even got to sit in luxury in one of the private jets on site. We learned about the history of Warsaw at the Benton County Museum. As a treat, we got drinks at Sonic.

Today 3rd and 4th grade had a Solar Eclipse watch party on the lawn. We enjoyed sun filled snacks while watching the moon pass between the Sun and Earth. According to the kids I'll be 100 years old when the next eclipse occurs.

This week 3rd and 4th grade learned about volcanoes and how they are formed. We ended the unit with a mini volcanic eruption.

Disaster Island was a hit with the 5-6 grade STEM class. Just when they had their LEGO island built, a disaster changed their plans!

5th -8th graders that read 4 MO Reader nominees celebrated with root beer floats at their voting celebration on Tuesday! Nice job!!

7th & 8th grade students are learning how to compare & contrast nonfiction and historical fiction texts. They used paint chips to record evidence from both passages before getting in partners to find similarities and differences using the evidence they found.

Several of the 7th and 8th grade students earned a trip to the Children's Literature Festival at UCM. They enjoyed hearing three author's speak about their lives as authors. Many purchased new books and were able to get those books signed by the author.

The 1st and 2nd grade students enjoyed some quiet reading time to start their Friday morning.

Stem students in grades 5-8, tested their Sphero snowplows. The goal was to move as many "snowballs " as possible. After testing, students will be given time to make adjustments before the final runs. Shawnee students were very creative with their projects!

Tomorrow will be our First Friday Fun (FFF) day for March. Students are invited to wear green or St. Patrick's Day attire to school.
