5th and 6th had a fun filled Valentine's Day party. We enjoyed fun treats and played even sweeter games.

Our awesome 5th and 6th graders are celebrating the 100th day of school by reading 100 books — that’s a LOT of pages, a TON of words, and probably a few million brain cells growing!
Thanks to all their hard work, our students are now officially:
100 days smarter
2,400 hours smarter
14 weeks smarter

Plan to join us for an evening of Math fun!!

5th and 6th grade did a trend! It was super fun to make ourselves into caricatures and add some of our favorites to the picture. This may be the best wall in my classroom.

5th and 6th graders recently stepped back in time to 1865 to create their very own historical newspapers following the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln and the end of the Civil War.
Students researched real events from the time period and wrote a variety of articles just like reporters would have over 150 years ago.

5th and 6th graders have been mixing things up in science class!
Today they learned all about mixtures—and what better way to explore them than with trail mix? Students identified different components, discussed how mixtures can be separated, and of course enjoyed a tasty, hands-on activity while learning.

🚨 WANTED: John Wilkes Booth 🚨
Crime: Ruining a perfectly good night at the theater.
Reward: Enough to make you really wish Venmo existed in 1865.
5th & 6th graders have been on the case! They’ve been reading Chasing Lincoln’s Killer and diving deep into the Civil War, uncovering the drama, danger, and history behind one of America’s most infamous moments.

7th & 8th graders completed a descriptive writing activity this week that required them to create a new Holiday Drink for a Winter Cafe. After they wrote their descriptions, they used AI to create an image of the drink. Please vote for the drink you would choose to be added to the cafe's menu. You can vote by liking the picture. (There are more photos in another post.)

5th and 6th grade created push pin art this morning. It was an absolute hit and they loved seeing the light shine through on the window.

🎄As we count down the days until Christmas break, let's celebrate with a Christmas Spirit Week! 🎅🏻 All students and staff are encouraged to participate! 🎄

Shawnee Chief Council (Stu-Co) is currently selling Candy Canes as a fundraiser. The candy cane prices are as follows:
Peppermint: $0.25 each or 4/$1
Other Flavors: $0.50 each or 3/$1
Beginning Thursday, 12/11, students who have more than $5 to spend on candy canes will need a note from a parent providing permission for them to purchase that many candy canes. We are not trying to discourage the sale of candy canes, but want to make sure parents are aware that their child(ren) are spending that much money on candy canes!
Thanks for your support!

Today our scientists learned how energy transfers when objects collide!
Students worked in teams to design the best protection for a sugar cube during a “collision test.” So much curiosity, creativity, and excitement!

When 5th and 6th grade finish their work early, they have been choosing hands-on, interactive games that spark critical thinking, teamwork, and imagination. From strategy challenges to creative problem-solving activities, it’s been amazing to see them collaborate, communicate, and have fun—no screens needed!

In STEM class, 3/4 graders earned a Genius Hour. Knex, straws & Snap Circuits were used to create their projects, (airplane, robot, flying saucer).

In STEM, K-2 grades read "Creepy Carrots" & used materials to make their own fence to keep the creepy carrots in the garden.

5th and 6th graders have been reading "Fever 1793" by Laurie Halse Anderson, and this week they wrapped up some awesome character analysis posters!
They did such a great job digging into each character’s personality, challenges, and growth — and their posters turned out amazing! So proud of all their hard work and creativity!

5th and 6th graders had a blast today learning about the phases of the Moon—with a delicious twist! Using Oreos, students carefully “carved” out the cream to model each lunar phase, from new moon to full moon (and maybe snuck a bite or two in the process 😉)

5th and 6th grade participated in a pumpkin decorating contest. Please vote for your favorite in the comments! They all did such an amazing job.

Boo Bag orders are due tomorrow! They will be delivered on Wednesday, October 29th.
