The 7th & 8th grade class took a step back in time today by visiting historic Independence, MO. The day began at the 1827 Jail where Frank James was held while awaiting trial. Then we took a 45-minute wagon ride and saw where two Civil War battles were fought, the Oregon Trail began, and the old stomping grounds of Harry S Truman. Next, we visited a log cabin courthouse and one-room schoolhouse. We ended our trip at the beautiful Bingham-Waggoner Estate.

5th and 6th grade recently wrapped up an economics unit. One of their projects was to participate in a class Trade Fair. Each student crafted homemade items to use in the fair. They used their items to barter with others. This was an absolute hit and they loved this experience.

Our awesome 5th and 6th graders are celebrating the 100th day of school by reading 100 books — that’s a LOT of pages, a TON of words, and probably a few million brain cells growing! Thanks to all their hard work, our students are now officially: 100 days smarter 2,400 hours smarter 14 weeks smarter

5th and 6th grade did a trend! It was super fun to make ourselves into caricatures and add some of our favorites to the picture. This may be the best wall in my classroom.

5th and 6th graders recently stepped back in time to 1865 to create their very own historical newspapers following the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln and the end of the Civil War. Students researched real events from the time period and wrote a variety of articles just like reporters would have over 150 years ago.

5th and 6th graders have been mixing things up in science class! Today they learned all about mixtures—and what better way to explore them than with trail mix? Students identified different components, discussed how mixtures can be separated, and of course enjoyed a tasty, hands-on activity while learning.
